hi! we're OceanOptic.
we’ve been building an underwater inspection submersible for the past year.
Journey
- designed and prototyped a watertight frame in Fusion, printed in PLA and reprinted in PETG after the PLA faced water leakage.
- experimented with acrylic pressure tubes to create watertight seals for the electronics, camera and LEDs, enclosed with O-ring seals and an epoxy seal for the PETG endcaps.
- depth tested everywhere: from bathtubs and commercial pools at ~2 m down to ~85 m in freshwater lakes, all tethered via a 100 m line, with pressure-chamber validation up to 8.5 bar.
Nationally recognized — an Ingenious+ innovation award from the Rideau Hall Foundation.
Our current iteration finds structural defects in subsea infrastructure (pipelines).
